Preventive Dentistry

Preventive dentistry is at the heart of any holistic dental practice. It is the most cost effective way in the long or short term to keep your body healthy.  In a holistic practice we carry the idea of prevention beyond the usual idea of brushing your teeth, flossing and staying away from sweets.  Most of the alternative or holistic practices that I do or recommend not only treat present time conditions and diseases, but can also prevent them from coming back.  Also there's a far greater awareness that the mouth can affect other parts of the body negatively, as well as positively, and in many more ways than are usually talked about or generally known.

 

For example,

Preventing gum disease from starting or continuing untreated in your mouth can mean you may avoid heart and vascular disease. Toxins and bacteria from diseased gums can bombard our circulatory system and organs day in and day out for decades without proper treatment causing life shortening plaques in our blood vessels and chronic inflammation in our organs and tissues. Preventing tooth decay from happening or recurring by proper home care and regular check ups and cleanings can mean you can keep your teeth for life.  This means you can chew healthy foods that some denture wearers can't.

 

Keeping all your teeth and keeping them healthy means you can get the extra health benefit of stimulating all your meridians as you chew your food. Each of your teeth can stimulate different meridians when you chew.  Keeping the energy system vibrant and stimulated is a major way to prevent disease in the entire body.
